Typical Day
I usually arrive at the office at 7:30, where the day goes from there is unpredictable. The trade floor is a fluid and fast paced environment - a typical day is very hard to define. There are common threads though: constant intellectual stimulation and personal challenge.
I have a combined role with the Global Alternative Asset Team and Credit Risk Management, so I find myself involved in a wide array of activities. On the Alternative Asset side, I support the group with focused research and quantitative analysis and I participate in marketing calls and due diligence reviews. On the Credit Risk Management side, I assist in monitoring the credit of our clients/counterparties and present relevant concerns to senior management. This involves gathering information from our Corporate Bank, Credit, Economics, and Research groups, and Back Office - and boiling it down to the salient points that our executives need to take decisive action. In all, because the trade floor is a transaction driven environment, every day involves a lot of on the fly time management/re-prioritizing of tasks, meetings/calls, digging through information, and liasing with various policy and risk committees within the larger banking group to do our best to get the deals done.
