Typical Day
As you will commonly hear from my colleagues there is no such thing as a "typical day", only typical duties. For me, I start each morning by scanning the headlines to find out what events are currently impacting the global financial markets, specifically with reference to credit and alternative investments. Next, I review the previous day's closing p&l and cash balances to make sure they are being properly managed and in-line with expectations. From there on, it depends on various projects and meetings that will engage me for the remainder of the day.
Some examples of ongoing responsibilities include helping to manage and monitor the unit's proprietary hedge fund investment portfolio and derivatives positions, assisting in initial and ongoing due diligence reviews, and preparing proposals and monthly updates to our Investment Committee. In addition, I help coordinate the subscription and redemption process for all investments, including internal dealings with legal, tax, finance, risk management, compliance and back office. I am also actively involved in the Investment Management of a Credit Opportunities Fund and help provide advisory services to the bank's International Wealth Management group. Lastly, SCTL has recently joined GCM's Sales & Trading Associate-in-Training Program, so part of my duty is to provide mentorship and opportunities for hands-on learning to trainees who rotate through our desk.
As SCTL continues to grow in scope and size, there is no doubt that the duties outlined above will continue to evolve.
