Career Path
I was born and raised in Vancouver B.C. and graduated from the University of British Columbia in 2003 with a Bachelor of Commerce (specializing in Finance and Economics). During my undergrad, I completed summer internships working in the hospitality and financial services industry in London, Toronto and Vancouver. In addition, I participated in a semester abroad in the Netherlands where I completed a consulting project for BP Energy Marketing. After graduation, I moved to Toronto to join Scotia's Associate-in-Training Program where I rotated through various desks, including an international stint in New York. After six rotations, I landed an exciting position Trading and Originating Commercial Paper. This hybrid role helped me appreciate the importance of liquidity in the capital markets, as well as how to manage credit and short-term interest rate risk. During this time, I also obtained my CFA designation.
In 2007, I was asked to help set up a new strategic principal investment unit in the Bahamas. Being part of a start up satellite office has thus far been an exciting challenge, and while I occasionally miss the "buzz" of the Toronto trade floor, the steep learning curve and stimulating nature of my work keeps me engaged and entertained.
The past 5 years working for Scotia Capital has truly been a challenging, yet fun and rewarding experience, and I look forward to further expanding my current role and in gaining more senior positions within the bank in years to come.
