Typical Day
An Associate’s day in Calgary starts between 8 – 8:30 am and lasts as long as the work takes to complete. Upon arrival, I start the day checking news releases and catching up on general market activity. After this is complete, I usually have a turn of a pitch book to update with edits from the senior members of each deal team I’m a part of. These changes can involve anything from word edits to new charts/graphs, financial model tweaks, industry research, etc. Between pitch books, I also attend a couple client meetings per week and participate in a variety of conference calls. During the evening hours we find a bit more time to relax, usually enjoying dinner together in the office and even ducking out for a workout if things aren’t too hectic. Then it’s back to the office again, finishing pitch books and models for the following morning, brainstorming M&A ideas, and then repeating the process all over again!
The Calgary office services the Oil & Gas industry and performs both Investment Banking and M&A advisory services. This provides great exposure to a broad spectrum of assignments and always keeps things new and interesting from day to day.
